Woody has been in private mediation practice since 1979 and has taught mediation as Adjunct Professor at the UCLA School of Law since 2002. He has also taught at Cal Western and University of San Diego.

Woody is the author of six books and numerous articles on mediation and other dispute resolution topics. He is a member of the San Diego Bar Family Law and ADR Sections and a member of the San Diego Collaborative Law Practice Group.

Woody is a founding member of the Southern California Mediation Association and was named by SCMA as Peacemaker of the Year and is the recipient of the 2017 SCMA President’s Award. In 2019, Woody was honored with the Lifetime Achievement Award by the Academy of Professional Family Mediators. In 2020, SCMA established the Forrest S. Mosten Star Award for Excellence and Innovation in Mediation and awarded Woody the Inaugural Award.
